Welcome to Rhineway, a bloated metropolis of gentrification and commercialization, where the undesirables are pushed to its outskirts, kept cleanly out of sight. But the city still feels the weight of the government’s greed. Crime grows by the day, bolstered by ranks of the desperate and downtrodden ignored by the very system meant to protect them.
Needless to say, the government-run superhero program has been met with mixed reactions from the public. Are superheroes the new boys in blue - or just the newest entertainment in a world where everything is designed to serve a market?
As an unregistered citizen living just outside Rhineway’s slums, none of this has ever truly affected your day-to-day life.
Until now.
Amidst the flames of a job fair gone horribly wrong, armed only with your overdue rent, a hungry cat, and healing powers that seem to be useful for - at best - patching up scrapes and bruises, you’ve been recruited to join a prestigious superhero agency.
You’re hardly a hero - you could do little more than duck for cover when your unhinged 10th grade science teacher finally snapped and set fire (literally) to the last chance you had at securing a ‘normal’ career.
But a superhero’s salary is good. Beyond good. Too good to turn down.
I thought I’d do like one, maybe 2 OCs but nah. Nope. We’re listing OCs till I get tired…well more tired than I am…plus this is another excuse to talk about games I love. So. Under the cut!!
You may be seeing a trend in these recent devlogs wherein I’ve been very interested in animation lol… Such as in this screen I showed off yesterday:
You don’t actually get an achievement for grabbing Katie in the tum-tums (at least not this early in the game), but it was a good opportunity to run the screen as a test screen. I know I feel like I earn good good points every time I get the privilege of grabbing my cats’ tum-tums!
Aside on that, I worked on adding a minor backdrop to the quick menu to ensure visibility, and re-organized a lot of minor elements of the overall layout (placing the points system in the lower left, adjusting the “hide UI button” to have a tidier placement, and swapped some default auto-generated renpy pink UI assets to the game’s more signature yellow shade.
I alsoooo worked on a handful of expressions for Griffin’s CG. Here are some highlights:
ISTG I’ve drawn at least 5 different smiles lol…
OH. And I resolved a BIZARRE math problem where the points were suddenly displayed as glitching floats rather than whole number integers???? :| It’s mainly bizarre bc I wrote this code two years ago and haven’t touched it since. Coding. *jazz hands* But all I had to do was add an extra “/” to my equation, so it was thankfully an easy fix.
Anddd I wrote in some more; mostly descriptive bird details, and just cutting some bits and fluffing out others. I think that about does it for now.
I don't know if I'm being really dumb but what are the ros powers? I looked at the ros info/picture post but it doesn't say. Are you keeping them quiet until release?
Really sorry if I'm just completely missing it!
Oh yeah, I keep them quiet. 😘 I want the characters to be the ones to tell you in the actual game!
I think I did reply to an ask with a list of hints, but it was a longggg time ago… When I find it, I’ll reblog this post with a link to it.
